Wokingham Cricket Club (WCC) will begin to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the club’s official founding on May 4, 2025, followed by a season of Bicentenary celebrations that bring people, cricket and the local community together.
“We are extremely excited about this landmark,” said Martin Wilson, Club President.
“To represent a local organisations that can boast a 200-year history of gathering people together in the community through a love of sport is something we can be proud of. We look forward to celebrating that evolving history throughout this 2025 season, whilst firmly focusing on the future and continuing the development of the next generation of cricketers.”
The anniversary celebrations will kick-start with a gala dinner and keynote address from former England cricket captain, David Gower OBE, on Saturday, May 3.
Other events already confirmed will see Wokingham CC take on an ‘England Legends XI’ selected by the Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) on Friday, July 11. Followed by an MCC XI fixture on Friday, August 1.
Wilson added: “We are passionate about the game on and off the field, and to ensure we set a platform of success for our next century. WCC has always been keen to bring the local community together and these celebrations are no different. So please do look to come down and get involved and be welcome to join in with our celebrations throughout the summer, particularly for the England Legends fixture in July.”
