Interview with Luke Georgeson

Interview with Luke Georgeson

Hugh Doyle7 Apr - 16:00

Overseas signing Luke Georgeson sat down with Hugh Doyle to discuss his background and ambitions ahead of his arrival at Sadler's End.

By all accounts it's an awesome ground and a great crew, so I'm excited to get stuck in!
- Luke Georgeson

Luke Georgeson arrives from Otago with first-class experience as the all format captain for his region. The all-rounder rounded off his domestic season in style, recording an unbeaten century in his final match as his side narrowly missed out on a historic Plunket Shield title on a tiebreaker. Luke will be joining up for what will be his first summer representing Wokingham. As he prepares to make the trip to the UK, our Media Secretary Hugh was able to sit down with Luke in New Zealand to discuss his background, what brought him to Wokingham, and what he hopes to achieve at Sadler's End.

How did you get into cricket?

Like most Kiwis it was playing backyard cricket with my family. Then I joined the local club down the road and have been playing ever since!

How has the Otago season gone?

It's been an up-and-down season, but overall I'd say it's been a positive one. We struggled in both white-ball formats, however we were able to make a run for the Plunket Shield in the last month of the season. That was particularly pleasing as it had been our weakest format over the last couple of seasons.

What's been your standout moment in cricket so far?

My standout moment was making my first-class debut. A lot of hard work goes into earning a first-class cap, so it was a very proud moment for me.

Is this your first experience playing overseas?

No - I've been lucky enough to have played three seasons in the UK prior to joining Wokingham. I played two summers for CSNI CC in Belfast and a summer with Witham CC in Essex. Both experiences were amazing and I learnt a lot about myself and my game.

What brought you to Wokingham?

I was recommended Wokingham CC by a friend, and I knew it was a winner as soon as I jumped on the call with Dan [Housego], Tom [Hampton] and Mark [Simmons]. They were all so genuine and seemed really keen to make my stay an enjoyable one. I look forward to meeting them and the rest of the club shortly!

What had you heard about the club before you signed?

Not a whole lot, to be honest. I've had a few friends play in the Home Counties Premier League before and they recommended the league highly. By all accounts it's an awesome ground and a great crew, so I'm excited to get stuck in!

What's your ambition for your time at Wokingham?

I'm well aware that the club has been promoted to the Premier League, but I don't want this to be a limiting factor. I hope we can play some good, positive cricket and have a good time doing so. On a personal level, it sounds like there's an exciting group of young players at the club - if I can impact them or their game positively, that would be very satisfying!

Wokingham have made a statement signing and we can't wait to see him in action. Catch Luke at Sadler's End this summer, starting with the Home Counties Premier League T20 round on 2nd May hosted at the club.
